Color Management in Graphic Applications Software - Session 4: Color Management in PDF

Recorded February 7, 2006

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW - Color Management in Graphic Applications Software
Color Management (CM) is often a confusing and intricate topic. It's important for designers and prepress personnel who use the Adobe Suite, Quark and Acrobat applications to understand the nuances of each software system. This unique webinar curriculum discusses CM in the context of these applications to assure customers and clients receive accurate and consistent color for their output files and print.

This Program
In this fourth webinar of the 4-part "Color Management in Graphic Applications Software" curriculum, we'll come full circle to our completed print-ready document in the form of PDF.

PDF is a very flexible container file format, allowing not only images and text, but bookmarks, hyperlinks and even movies, none of which are printable. Understand why would we want to color manage PDF and how can we restrict the kinds of objects and color spaces used in PDF?

Plus, we'll discuss what are PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 formats and how we can produce them from InDesign and QuarkXPress.

We'll discuss the color settings in both Adobe Acrobat Professional and Distiller 7, both of which have unique behavior among the Adobe applications. We'll learn how to soft proof, hard proof, and convert objects to different color spaces, and produce color managed PDFs both for high-quality print and for low-quality on-screen preview purposes.
